Marvel Studios Releases Its First Look at ‘Avengers: Infinity War’

When you’re in the business of making movies as large as those in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, even the first few days of production are a pretty big deal for fans. This is doubly so when you’re launching Avengers: Infinity War, a superhero crossover event unlike anything audiences have ever seen before on film. So last night, when Marvel released a brand new production video complete with new cast interviews and some key concept art, people rightly lost their minds. You think you’ve seen movie hype? You ain’t seen nothing yet.

Throughout the video, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and Anthony and Joe Russo  —  the directors behind the previous two Captain America films  —  discuss their plans for the two Avengers: Infinity War films. To hear them say it, everything that has happened until now has been building to this point. Avengers: Infinity War will bring together a group of heroes that have turned on each other and a group of misfits that have become heroes (The Guardians of the Galaxy) to fight Thanos, the most powerful enemy Earth has ever seen. We’re also treated to a brief interview with Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Pratt, and Tom Holland, which is a welcome reminder that, holy cow, those crazy Marvel folks really are bringing everyone together for these films.

Of course, the thing about Avengers: Infinity War is that nobody really believes the Avengers are going to lose. Unless Marvel has decided to wipe out Earth in its blockbuster crossover event and turn off the lights on the Marvel Cinematic Universe —  and wouldn’t that be something of a surprise  —  our heroes will vanquish their enemies and emerge victorious by the final reel. What we don’t know, however, is which superheroes will be killed or step down at the conclusion of the series. Back in 2015, we did a complete rundown of all the movies remaining on the Marvel actors’ contracts, and it seems like a lot of them are in a position to step away by the second Avengers: Infinity War film. For many of these actors, their biggest Marvel movie might also be their last.

Still, if Avengers: Infinity War is indeed a proper goodbye to actors like Robert Downey, Jr. and Chris Evans, here’s hoping Marvel will make it the biggest and baddest going away party Hollywood has ever seen. The first Avengers: Infinity War film will hit theaters on May 4, 2018, so take all the time you need to say goodbye.
