Blake Shelton Completes His Team with Country Rocker Rudy Parris on ‘The Voice’
46-year-old Rudy Parris always had a burning desire to pursue a career in music â but he put his dreams on hold in order to be a family man. Now, more than twenty years later, he has received his moment to shine via his blind audition on âThe Voice,â where he put a country spin on the Police classic, âEvery Breath You Take.â
Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green hit their buzzers as Parris carried the well-known tune in a way that was both fresh and familiar. But his singing wasnât the only thing that the judges noticed. In fact, âI want your hair!â were the first words that left Cee Loâs mouth. With a head of long, dark hair, Parris certainly looked more like a member of Kiss than a country singer â but Shelton was more than willing to see past that.
âYou damn sure donât look country at all, but country is still in there, man. I donât know what youâre gonna do about that other than pick me for your coach,â he said. Sheltonâs reasoning must have hit home, because it wasnât long after that Parris said, âCee Lo, youâre awesome ⦠But because my roots are so deep in country music, I think Iâm gonna go with Blake Shelton.â He was the final addition to Team Blake.
Even greater than Parrisâ passion for music is his desire to look after his family â particularly his daughter. In order to make sure that his little girl was taken care of, he stayed home with her and played local gigs instead of touring the world when he was younger. Now that sheâs all grown up with a child of her own, he finally has the freedom to go after what heâs wanted for so long.
âI put my dreams of hold and I took care of my daughter. I really feel like this is my good thing coming back to me,â Parris said.
