The East Texas Community Food Coalition requests your attendance tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. at the County Commissioner Court meeting. Their recent request to have the Summer-Fall farmers market on the downtown square on Thursday evenings has been denied by Judge Joel Baker. The reason cited for the denial is that recurring events are not allowed on the square.

The ETCFC plans to request an exception be made on their behalf for the following reasons. The ETCFC needs an alternate location to the Fairgrounds due to the Rose Parade Staging and the State Fair in August and September. They are the only farmers market in East Texas authorized to accept the Farmers Market Nutrition Vouchers from WIC participants, and these vouchers are redeemable through September. They are currently receiving between $1,000-$2,000 in vouchers each Saturday market. The square is centrally located withing the four food deserts in Tyler.

Currently the square is not reserved for any of the Thursdays that ETCFC is requesting permission for use. If you would like to support this effort,  meet at the Courthouse Annex at 8:30 a.m., fill out a simple one-page document, and request to speak at the meeting for 3 minutes.
