If you’ve been one of the thousands of fans in the stands and on the sidelines on a Friday night cheering on the John Tyler Lions, you know the atmosphere is electric.

Livability.com has released their list of the Top 10 High School Football cities in the country, and two East Texas towns made the list. Lufkin is #1. Where did Tyler land?

Oakland High School in Murfreesboro, TN; De La Salle High School in Concord, California; West Monroe HS in West Munroe, Louisiana; and our neighbors in Lufkin are some of the others that made the prestigious top ten list. Tyler is #5 on the list of the Top High School Football Cities in America.

Football in East Texas is king we know, and having two "almost neighboring" cities in the top ten is evidence of that. But Livability.com says Lufkin is the number one high school football city in America, not only for the Lufkin Panthers, but also because of Dunbar High School that won three state titles in the 1960s.

The John Tyler Lions had somethin' to say about that though, with the 35-21 win over the Panthers in the season opener last Friday. There was no shortage of school spirit there, and if you asked Lions' fans they'd probably say they out-yelled the Panthers' fans. Not only does Tyler do a great job of backing its Lions, but those Tyler Lee Red Raiders have plenty of support too.

Next up for the Lions - at Lancaster Friday 9/7.
