How the Muppets Got Their Start — Throwback Thursday [VIDEO]

With Muppets Most Wanted opening in theaters tomorrow, today is a great day to take a look back at where they began. While Jim Henson created the Muppets in 1955, and they had a successful television series with The Muppet Show, Kermit, Miss Piggy and the gang debuted on the silver screen in 1979, with The Muppet Movie.

Since then the Muppet film franchise has grown, subsided, and was resurrected in 2011 with The Muppets. Since it's a Throwback Thursday, let's take a look at a trailer for the first film.

Kermit begins his search for fame and fortune at the end of the rainbow, making friends along the way, on his journey to Hollywood. Muppets: Most Wanted will be the eighth feature film of the franchise, but this is how it all began.
