Yesterday (April 9), Tennessee native Justin Timberlake visited the White House for a special celebration of Memphis soul music, and his performance of Otis Redding’s ‘(Sittin’ On) the Dock of the Bay’ had the Obamas smiling and singing along.

The evening also featured such artists as Mavis Staples, Ben Harper, Charlie Musselwhite and Sam Moore.

CBS News reports that the 'Suit & Tie' singer participated in a workshop led by Michelle Obama that drew students from all over the country. The First Lady touched upon the importance of musicians working hard to perfect their craft, and according to a White House press release, she said that “when Justin first started touring, he would immediately go to the bus to watch a tape of his performance, taking notes so that the next night he would be even better.”

Timberlake's soulful rendition of the famous tune was a total crowd pleaser, as you can see in the clip above. The event marks the 10th installment of the ‘In Performance at the White House’ series and is set to air next Tuesday (April 16) on PBS.
