Miley Cyrus is the print world's hottest, most sought-after property!

The twerker covers the May 2014 issue of ELLE, looking stunning in metallics and making big reveals about life after Liam. ELLE is a maaaaj score for her, since it's the mag's much-anticipated music issue. She also covers the May 2014 issue of Seventeen, which, like ELLE, is a title in the Hearst magazine family. Big deal, right? What's the catch? Well, Cyrus did not agree to the Seventeen cover. Whoa! Wait! What?

According to a WWD report, Cyrus is choosy about which covers she appears on. She declined the Seventeen cover and interview, but the mag went rogue and put her on anyway.

Despite Cyrus' decision not to participate in a Seventeen cover, the mag used stock images and is publishing a write-around piece, meaning there are no exclusive quotes, nor is their any direct Miley engagement. None of the Seventeen editorial was Team Cyrus-approved.

A source labeled the superstar "very, very selective" when it comes to mag covers and that she "declined Seventeen and denied being a part of it, completely." Remember, there were rumors that she got a Vogue cover but that it was pulled once Anna Wintour caught wind of her VMAs antics. Miley hinted that she wouldn't compromise and was willing to take the risk and lose her Vogue moment.

Unlike, say, Selena Gomez, Cyrus has completely broken ties with her former Disney image, which Seventeen is certainly more connected to.

Cyrus has embraced her edgier, more adult side, so an ELLE cover, which is fashion-driven, is more her speed at this stage of her career. Since Miss Miley has gone a raunchier route, she doesn't overtly fit the Seventeen readership anymore. Her W and Rolling Stone covers fall in line more with her revamped image.

So why would Seventeen put her on the cover anyway?

That's painfully obvious. Miley covers sell. Her March 2013 Cosmo cover – her first of two in that calendar year — moved 1.1 million copies. (See the December 2013 Cosmo cover here.)

A spokesperson for Seventeen explained that the decision was also reader-dictated. “Seventeen readers love Miley Cyrus, and we cover her every chance we get. She ranked high on the March issue’s Girl Power List. Our readers asked for more, so we responded as quickly as possible. Miley’s currently on tour promoting ‘Bangerz,’ so what better time than now to celebrate her and give our readers what they want."

Essentially, Miley is magazine hot property.
