Is ‘Private Practice’ Losing Its Female Lead Too?

Private Practice Season 6
ABC

Brace yourself, ‘Private Practice‘ fans.  This may be the end. We’ve already endured a bit of heartache that ‘Private Practice’ would be losing its leading man Tim Daly for the sixth (and potentially) final thirteen-episode season, but now reports are swirling that the ‘Grey’s Anatomy‘ spin-off is definitely on its last legs.  Will series lead Kate Walsh stick with the show after seven years as Dr. Addison Montgomery, as it heads into its next run of episodes?

Deadline reports that ‘Private Practice’ star Kate Walsh is officially eying an exit from the show after its upcoming 13-episode season.  As it stands, ‘Private Practice’ was renewed for a sixth season, but the 13-episode order along with a reduced budget likely means that ABC is intending to close the doors on ‘Private Practice.  Walsh’s deal ended with last season’s finale, and the actress would only officially commit to a further 13.

While Walsh will at least be featured in the show’s sixth season, less fortunate was that of her co-star Tim Daly, whose contract wasn’t renewed after the character Pete Wilder was hauled off to jail at the end of last season.  Between the additionally-renewed ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ ‘Scandal‘ and ‘Private Practice,’ it’s possible show-runner Shonda Rhimes may look to lighten her load by ditching ‘Practice.’

Of course, ‘Private Practice’ could still potentially move on without Walsh’s character Addison Montgomery, who departed ‘Grey’s’ after two years for her own series, though it seems unlikely.

What say you?  Are you ready to close the doors on ‘Private Practice,’ or would you like to see the series continue without either of its leads?  Sound off in the comments below!
