Scathing Obituary Causes Controversy For Minnesota Newspaper
A newspaper in Minnesota has taken down an online version of a scathing obituary that went viral earlier this week amid questions about whether it should have been published in the beginning.
The obituary started out normal, detailing her birth, marriage details in 1957 and the birth of her two children, Gina and Jay.
However, things turned nasty as information was included about infidelity and becoming pregnant by her husband’s brother, stating in part:
She abandoned her children, Gina and Jay, who were then raised by her parents. She will not be missed by Gina and Jay, and they understand that this world is a better place without her.
The general manager of the Gazette said the family had paid for the obituary, and even though the contents are not illegal, it does raise ethical issues.
What is sad about this story is there was no rebuttal and I'm sure there were some regrets of the incident that is 60 years old. I hope all parties can resolve their issues so the healing can begin for the sake of the family.
