Shakira Closes Out the 2014 FIFA World Cup [VIDEO]

After a month of matches in Brazil featuring the world’s best international football players, the 2014 World Cup came to an end yesterday when the two teams left standing, Argentina and Germany, fought it out to a thrilling end. Germany ended up being the victor, having scored the game’s only goal during the match’s extra time period.
Before the teams took the field, however, several acts took the field at the Macarana in Rio de Janeiro to perform for the closing ceremony. including Shakira, who closed out the 2006 and 2010 World Cup ceremonies as well.
Shakira told the BBC, “I have an intricate relationship with football for obvious reasons, and I truly understand what the World Cup means to so many people, myself included.”
The 37-year-old Colombian native was given the honor of releasing the 2010 World Cup’s official anthem, ‘Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),’ which became the best-selling World Cup song of all time. While her song for the Brazil games, ‘La La La (Brazil 2014),’ wasn’t named the official anthem, it does appear on FIFA’s official soundtrack album.
In addition to Shakira, Wyclef Jean, Carlos Santana, and Brazilian singers Alexandre Pires and Ivete Sangalo performed for the stadium as well. Santana, Wyclef and Alexandre Pires performed their anthem for the games, ‘Dar Um Jeito (We Will Find a Way).’
