Recently we reported that the first-ever D1 college athletic scholarship was just given out and now, Shreveport-Bossier City, LA is getting its own major cornhole tournament.

Cornhole isn't just for tailgating and backyard barbecues anymore! Playing cornhole is big in Shreveport-Bossier, so big there's an actual Shreveport/Bossier Cornhole Association with roughly 2,300 members on Facebook and they're super active. Not only do they host a ton of tournaments in our area with cash prizes, but they also support a lot of area charities.

Did you know that you could play cornhole at two Caddo Parish Parks now?

Caddo Parish Parks and Recreation has two cornhole courts at Earl G. Williamson Park located at 11425 LA Hwy. 1 in Oil City and Eddie D. Jones Park at 8400 Mike Clark Road in Keithville. Each of the cornhole courts is covered with brand-new shade structures for protection from extreme heat and/or inclement weather. The cornhole boards are really cool and sport the Caddo Parish logo. However, officials say you must bring your own bean bags to play.

Did you know you can get a scholarship for playing cornhole?

We just reported this week that two guys from Colorado just received a scholarship to play D-1 cornhole for Winthrop University in South Carolina. While it's just a partial scholarship, the coach says full rides aren't out of the question in the future.

Did you know that Shreveport-Bossier City is getting a major cornhole tournament?

According to Visit Shreveport-Bossier, the American Cornhole Organization, which is the Worldwide Governing Body of the sport of cornhole since 2005 is bringing the inaugural ACO Shreveport-Bossier Major Tournament to the Bossier Civic Center on Friday and Saturday, April 5-6, 2024. Organizers say the tourney is both a points-earning tournament for players of all skill levels who will be competing to qualify for the ACO World Championships and a tournament that welcomes the public for social play registration and competition for prize money. And guess what? Registration is already open here.

Good luck and let the bags fly!
