Susan Boyle Diagnosed With Asperger Syndrome
Susan Boyle has revealed that she has been diagnosed with Asperger syndrome, a form of autism. The ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ singer confessed that she had received a misdiagnosis as a child. Now that she has finally learned the truth about her condition, she feels a great sense of relief.
Boyle, 52, saw a specialist a year ago who told her that she had both an above-average IQ and Asperger’s, the latter of which affects both social and communication skills.
Boyle dealt with learning issues when she was a child, and as a result, she struggled and was a victim of bullying. At the time, she was told her difficulties with learning were the result of brain damage due to oxygen deprivation at birth. It turns out that is not what afflicted her.
While Su Bo said “I have always known that I have had an unfair label put upon me,” she is moving forward with a better perspective. “Now I have a clearer understanding of what’s wrong, and I feel relieved and a bit more relaxed about myself,” she said.
That’s so wonderful to hear!
The singer with the angelic voice also explained how the condition has impacted and continues to impact her life, saying, “I would say I have relationship difficulties, communicative difficulties, which lead to a lot of frustration. If people were a bit more patient, that would help.”
Despite dealing with those hardships, the condition is not getting the best of her. The singer declared, “Asperger’s doesn’t define me. It’s a condition that I have to live with and work through, but I feel more relaxed about myself. People will have a much greater understanding of who I am and why I do the things I do.”
Hopefully, Boyle can shed some light on the condition and help others dealing with the same difficulties.
