The moviegoing weekend gets off to a mid-week start with Independence Day falling on a Thursday. On Wednesday, two big-time blockbuster wannabes hit theaters—one featuring a beloved summer-movie star of years past, the other a sequel to a 2010 animated smash.
With the fourth of July coming at us in a couple of days, a lot of big movies will be hitting the big screen as well. If you are playing on spending some of your holiday in the theater watching one of this summer hits, you may want to see a bit of how this movie magic was made. For instance, have you ever thought about how they capture all of the sounds for the flick?
We have another comedy/action pairing of flicks hitting theaters this weekend. The first is a reunion of sorts between the director and co-star of the summer 2011 hit 'Bridesmaids,' and the second should sound oddly familiar to anyone who caught 'Olympus Has Fallen' back in March.
Monster's University debuted in the box office last weekend in the #1 position by raking in over $82 million and of that 30% of that total was from 3D ticket sales. You would think that would be a pretty good percentage of ticket sales, however, it's one of the lowest percentages for an animated film ever.
Even with Warner Brothers/DC’s ‘Man of Steel‘ set to open this weekend, and even with the billion dollar grosses of the last two Batman films, there’s no question that Marvel is the studio for superhero movies. To extend their legacy, they’ve set release dates for two currently untitled projects set to start the summer seasons in 2016 and 2017.
It's another big weekend at the cineplex, with the return of one of the most famous superheroes of all time, plus an end-of-the-world story about a bunch of stoners played by actors playing themselves. Should be fun whichever path you take.
For the second week in a row, a David has taken down a Goliath. Last week, a little magician thriller handily derailed a Will Smith juggernaut and this week, the tiny horror film 'The Purge' took 'The Internship' down a peg or a dozen. We're one month in and this summer movie season has already given us plenty of surprises at the box office.
The summer movie season keeps chugging right along. (Yes, we realize it isn't technically summer yet, but as far as movies are concerned, it is.) This weekend we get a dose of comedy and a dash of the spooks, so take your pick, moviegoers.
How rare is it for a Will Smith sci-fi blockbuster to not open at number one at the box office? Also, how horrible must it feel for a Will Smith sci-fi blockbuster to not only get beaten by the second week of a long running franchise about fast cars, but by a magician thriller headlined by Jesse Eisenberg?
After the Memorial Day weekend trio of 'Fast & Furious 6,' 'The Hangover Part III' and 'Epic' led to the sixth-biggest box office weekend of all time, this weekend's pair of new releases have a pretty tough act to follow when it comes to creating excitement at theaters.
