Texans May Not Have Known That Self Checkout Is Actually A Privilege
The retailers have heard you, your ability to self-checkout may be going away or changing.
The Complaints
I have seen so many posts, or rather copies of posts that indignantly claim that the poster does not work for the store so they shouldn't have to check themselves out. I specifically like the ones that say "I loaded my basket, scanned all my items...blah, blah, blah..so I'm not showing my receipt" as if loading their basket wasn't something they weren't going to do anyway.
What's Happening?
Well, the self-entitled people who insisted on being waited on have been heard. Many of the stores that popularized self-checkout are now limiting those areas in favor of regular checkouts manned by humans. But wait, did you know all this time that self-checkout was a luxury you were being provided with?
Convenience
Many people preferred self-checkout over waiting in line. They found themselves perfectly able to quickly run some things across a scanner, bag 'em up, pay and go with occasional stops to show a receipt. I usually use a checker, but love the ability to get in and out quickly on occasion.
So Here We Go
Self-checkouts, due to all the whining and theft, will now become a "members only" luxury in many stores. That's right whiners, enjoy spending time with one item in a checkout line while the people who sign up to be in discount clubs, and/or pay a membership fee will be the only ones allowed to use self-checkout.
You Had It Good
Now only "the poors" and the people full of righteous indignation will use the checkout lines and they will pay for it with the absolute most precious resource in life, and that is time. You will wait behind people who can't find their wallet, want to second guess an item after seeing it scanned, need to see the manager, and so on. Meanwhile, some of us will save time, by using the self-checkouts you took for granted.
