Oh we love to go fast in Texas; in fact our state has the fastest highway in the country & we also had the country's fastest speeding ticket ever issued in the state. (Not sure if we should be proud of that one however). But while we're on the topic of speeding... is it possible to drive faster over the posted speed limit? Or will just be pulled over even for just 2 mph over the speed limit in Texas?

When can you drive faster than usual in Texas?

Well the Texas laws are pretty strict about this; the Texas speed limit usually hangs around 60 for urban highways, 75 for rural highways, and for urban areas it's 35 mph. Even if you're caught going 5mph over the speed limit (i.e. a 40 in a 35 mph zone), you're still considered speeding and you can pay a hefty fine.

Depending on how fast you're going, you can be issued a fine that ranges anywhere between $200 to $334, according to Forbes. It varies from city to city but the average fine is about $223 for 10 miles over the speed limit, $255 for 15 miles over the speed limit an $291 for 20 miles over the speed limit. That's a lot of money...

Can you get caught for speeding even if you go 1 or 2mph in Texas?

The text says yes, and the police? Well they also say "yes". In fact it's happened before in 2023: Cindy Nguyen was pulled over by a Houston police officer for going 37 in a 35 mph zone. And she's not the only one apparently; a lot of users on Quora have had similar or even crazier experiences (one user got pulled over for even going over half a mile per hour).

So the moral of the story is, don't speed. If you get pulled over by a cop, and you're speeding, be ready to pay a hefty fee.
