Tyler Police say a homeowner was alerted by his neighbor that a person was lurking outside his house. The homeowner, Terry Traylor ,walked outside with his handgun to investigate and was confronted by the suspect  who also had a gun.

The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Jason Raychard Williams, told Traylor not  to move or he would kill him. Traylor then shot Williams one time striking his handgun with the round ricocheting into the suspect’s head.  Williams is hospitalized in critical condition at ETMC in Tyler.

The shooting occurred at 1807 North Ross shortly before 10 p.m., and remains under investigation.

Citizens Help Capture Burglary Suspect

Early this morning Tyler Police received a call from a homeowner who said he believed a  person was breaking into his home located in the 1300 block of Azalea Dr. While responding officers were informed that the homeowner’s husband and neighbor had caught the suspect and were holding him until officers arrived.

Once on scene the homeowner told officers he witnessed the suspect, identified as Ronald Carter, 53, of Tyler break into his vehicle and remove his property.  The victim confronted the suspect and a struggle ensued leading to the victim sustaining minor injuries.  The suspect managed to free himself from the victim only to be caught again by the victim’s next door neighbor a few feet away.

Ronald Carter was placed in custody for Robbery and transported to the Smith County jail.

Purse Snatcher Caught in Gladewater

GLADEWATER – Charges are pending against a man suspected of attempting to rob a woman of her purse and striking the woman’s husband with his fist.

Gladewater police say the attempted robbery occurred in the 1400 block of East Broadway in the parking lot of CVS/Brookshire grocery shopping center.

The suspect identified as Adam Paul Grzelczyk ,27, attempted to grab the woman’s purse and was confronted by the woman’s husband . Grzelczyk hit the man and fled into a wooded area. The suspect was located a short time later after he was spotted in a car from a person who had given him a ride.

The arrest was made on Locker Plant Rd. Robbery charges are expected to be filed against Grzelczyk.

Motorcyclist Dies in Longview Accident

LONGVIEW – Police say alcohol may have been a factor in a two vehicle accident Wednesday night in Longview.

Police say 20 year old Garrett Jordan Robinson of Longview was driving his motorcycle at a high rate of speed when he struck a car at the intersection of Ruthlynn Drive and McCann Road. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car, 27 year old Amy Beavers of Longview was transported to the hospital with non life-threatning injuries.

The fatal wreck which remains under investigation occurred just before midnight Wednesday.

DNA confirms Houston Man is Missing Child’s Father

HOUSTON — DNA tests have confirmed that a Houston man who reported his son missing eight years ago is the father of the boy found in East Texas last week.

Fernando Morin and his wife, Auboni (AW-bon-ee) Champion-Morin, are seeking to regain custody of the child who’s been in foster care since he was found in San Augustine last week.

Child Protective Services officials say the results of Morin’s DNA tests were disclosed in a Houston court Wednesday. His wife’s results were not complete.

Another court hearing in the case is set for next week.

A woman is jailed in San Augustine on a kidnapping charge related to the child’s disappearance in late 2004.

 

Homeless Man Sets Fire to a State Senator’s Office

FORT WORTH — Police say a homeless man threw bottles filled with lighter fluid at the Fort Worth office of Democratic state Sen. Wendy Davis, starting a small fire.

Cedric Steele was arrested on arson charges late Tuesday, hours after staffers inside Davis’ office opened the door to find burning bottles and waist-high flames.

Fort Worth Police Chief Jeffrey Halstead said Wednesday that Steele had been known to frequent the area and visited the senator’s office on Friday and Monday.

A senator since 2009, Davis was not in the office during the attack.

 

Cost of Texas Drought Exceeds First Estimate

HOUSTON — Texas officials say the historic drought has caused crop and livestock losses estimated at $7.62 billion for last year. The Texas AgriLife Extension Service’s latest estimate is more than $2.4 billion higher than what was provided in August.

The estimate topped the previous record of $4.1 billion in 2006.
