Tyler ISD Worries About Too Much YouTube Access

Tyler Independent School District opened up access to YouTube last week, with the intention students will be able to learn from the site. There's information there on preparing for standardized testing, along with other tools teachers might find helpful.

And as we all know, there's a LOT of other stuff on YouTube. Concerns were raised last week about what students might do with the "other stuff" and how they might use their time when they have a lot of it to spend online.

Some Tyler ISD board members wondered whether teachers should keep control over YouTube access. The district had restricted access to YouTube until now, and last week the restrictions were lifted and open access came into play.

The board ultimately leaves it up to the teachers to preview every YouTube video they show in class, and it 's up to the teachers to monitor the students while they're online.
