Texas is home to many thrilling roller coasters thanks to Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington, Texas, Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio, Galveston's Pleasure Pier, Wonderland Amusement Park in Amarillo, and many others. There's a new style coaster that recently debuted in New Braunfels, Texas and it's the first one in Texas - an alpine coaster.

There is one thing that I really enjoy doing and that is riding roller coasters! All kinds too. Air time from the hills, heart-stopping steep drops, and inversions are the best, but you can't beat a traditional wooden coaster that is a bit rough either. In fact, I had a chance to take a ride on the new water coaster at Six Flags Over Texas, AQUAMAN: Power Wave, before it opened to the public.

So there's another class of roller coaster that's been around for years and it has finally made its way to Texas. The alpine coaster or mountain coaster. This coaster uses gravity to its fullest potential and allows the rider to control the speed of the roller coaster experience. I've had the opportunity to ride on many different styles of alpine coasters while summer vacationing in Colorado and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. There are those that are made of fiberglass quarter-pipe and others that are made using a steel track. These coasters allow the rider to control the speed of the ride with its very own braking system.

Texas now has its very first alpine coaster in New Braunfels, Texas.

The Cliff Carver opened mid-February at Camp Fimfo, an RV camping and glamping resort in New Braunfels. Once at the top of The Cliff Carver, riders will descend at their own speed, or up to 25 miles per hour, in a sled all while being able to control their speed down the near-mile-long track. Go full throttle all the way down or take a leisurely ride down the mountainside and take in the views.

This isn't the only thing to do at Camp Fimfo though. There's zip lining, a water park, and all kinds of activities for the RVer! Sounds like a summer destination place to me. I'm there for the alpine coaster for sure!
