The film is based on the true story of Sarah Winchester, heiress to the Winchester rifle fortune. She lived an extraordinary and strange life. After the death of her husband and young child, she moved from Boston to California and began construction on what is now the Winchester Mystery House.

Yes, the house is real. I have walked through it. Sarah Winchester was incredibly superstitious, and was told by a spiritualist that she needed to construct a home that attracted good spirits to ward off the evil spirits that may haunt her from those killed by winchester rifles.

The film looks to be pretty scary! I think I'll wait till the DVD is out to watch it at home with the lights on. I can tell you from experience that house is creepy even during the day. It's also beautiful and fascinating. If you're ever in San Jose, I highly recommend taking a tour!
