I, and I'm sure most Texans, don't enjoy thinking about our eventual passing. Most of us have experienced death before -- be it a friend, a loved one, or even a co-worker -- and it is always just as tragic.

However morbid the thought of death may be, I do like to think of all the people I will have met, places I will have seen, experiences I'll have had, and the impact I'll leave by the end of life.

My one wish, and I'm sure it's true for many others, is to have a death that comes easily. I've seen both of my grandfathers in hospitals, slowly fading. Their ends were nothing like how they were in life, and I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

But whatever my wishes may be, when it comes to statistics there are causes of death that are most common in Texas.

What is Texas' most common cause of death?

As it turns out, heart disease causes a majority of deaths in Texas.

According to the CDC, Texas' death rate from heart disease is 172.3  -- which is the number of deaths per 100,000 population. Looking at 2022 statistics, Texas had 50,672 deaths from heart disease.

While this seems like a large number, Texas certainly doesn't have the highest rate of heart disease deaths -- that would be Oklahoma with a rate of 257.1.

What are the other top causes of death?

While heart disease may be the most common, other medical issues prove very fatal for Texans. If you're interested in learning about the top 10 causes of death in Texas as reported by the CDC, continue to the gallery here:
