After 100 Years, Texas Flagship Retail Location To Close
After more than 100 years of serving customers from its flagship location in downtown Dallas, Neiman Marcus announced that it will be closing this location.
For the past several years we have been reporting that retailers have been reducing their footprint of physical stores, by making them smaller or closing them all together and usually going out of business.
While this type of news can be expected, the sudden news of the Neiman Marcus flagship store in downtown Dallas closing comes as a shock to the Dallas community.
Why Is Neiman Marcus' Downtown Dallas Location Closing?
Saks Global, who purchased Neiman Marcus for $2.65 billion in December 2024, tells NBCDFW on Tuesday,
After more than a decade of negotiations, we received a notice from a landlord to terminate our occupancy, forcing us to close the Neiman Marcus Downtown Dallas location effective March 31, 2025. This location has been a beloved institution in the community for more than a century, and we are disappointed to be losing a piece of Neiman Marcus history."

When Did Neiman Marcus First Open?
The company got its start in 1907 to cater to selling high-quality, ready-to-wear clothing to oil-rich Texans. D Magazine reports, that a fire destroyed the original location in 1913 and the company rebuilt it a year later and opened its flagship store in 1914 in downtown Dallas.
The flagship location has been surrounded by Main, Ervay, and Commerce Streets for more than 100 years now. The location has since been named as a historical landmark.
Growing up in the Dallas metroplex I can remember going shopping with my grandmother at a Neiman Marcus. While my grandparents were not oil-rich Texans, she loved to 'window shop' to see the fashion that was available at the time and occasionally make a purchase.
A Saks Global statement obtained by Fox 4 News Dallas goes on to say,
Dallas is an important market for us, and we remain highly committed to upholding Neiman Marcus’ legacy there. We see a long-term opportunity to invest in our Dallas shopping experience, and look forward to serving customers at our other locations."
The company plans on investing $100 million towards a renovation and reimagining of the shopping experience at their NorthPark store in North Dallas.
