Somehow our favorite country bumpkin on ‘American Idol‘ this season, Skylar Laine, landed herself in the bottom three last week. Rather than sulking about her near demise, the fiery singer came out tonight (May 2) in a fringed vest and boots choosing to perform a foot stomping rendition of ‘Fortunate Son’ by Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Putting her signature country twang on the song, Laine took to the stage as though it was built specifically for her and not for all the ‘American Idol’ contestants to perform on. If she was sweating about last week, she sure wasn’t letting the perspiration show.

Jennifer Lopez told Laine that she envisions her backstage before her performance just being held back and ready to go. “It’s amazing,” she said. “It’s like you attack every song and it makes the crowd move and everyone move. It’s so natural for you.” Steven Tyler, who can be a man of few words, kept it simple: “I love when you boot scoot out there.” Randy Jackson told the singer that she did an amazing job and was born for the stage.

In round two, Laine chose to sing ‘You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me’ by Dusty Springfield. She gave a flawless performance that was electrifying despite the fact she was not galloping around the stage like a boundless supply of energy. Laine showed her serious side, and even though she said “we don’t have to love her,” we think we will anyways.

Jackson told her, “Every time you get up there I believe you. I am transfixed on everything you’re doing.” Lopez looked quizzically at the singer and asked, “You want to win, don’t you?” She continued, “You just might. You’re winning the hearts of America as we speak.” Tyler agreed with his cohorts and so do we — Laine is not just a good singer, but a true force to be reckoned with.
