This will be the last 'summer weekend' for a lot of students across East Texas. The first day of school is coming up next week, but for some, the first day of school was this week. Students dread going back to school and parents dread all the back-to-school shopping that must be done.

Thankfully though parents will get a break at the register when purchasing school supplies, backpacks, shoes, clothes, and other school-related items because this weekend is the annual Texas State Sales Tax Holiday Weekend. Qualifying purchases on school supplies are exempt from state sales tax beginning Friday and ending Sunday at 11:59p.

With a lot of shopping going on this weekend you can take a break from the crowds and maybe the heat and take part in one of these weekend events happening around East Texas.

Here's a look at this weekend's events happening across East Texas.
