According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten is planning to retire after 15 NFL seasons to join Monday Night Football.

The announcement of his possible retirement comes as a surprise as the likely future Hall of Famer restructured his deal last month to save the Cowboys $3 million in cap space.

Witten would retire as the Cowboys all-time leader in receptions (1,152) and receiving yards (12,448). He would finish third all-time in touchdown receptions (68) behind Bob Hayes and Dez Bryant.

If Witten were to hang it up and join the Monday Night Football team his first trip back to AT&T Stadium would be on November 5th to call the Cowboys game against the Tennessee Titans.

We'll pass on more as it develops.
