Imagine you're in a horror movie. What's the scene like? Are you in a big city like Dallas or are you in a secluded area in the woods where no one can hear your screams? For me, it's the latter.

Texas Parks and Wildlife decided to get a little spooky in their October newsletter and put out a top 6 list of Mysterious Parks in Texas and Caddo Lake State Park is number 4. Surprise! East Texas has some creepy woods - especially at night or under the canopy. To be clear, there is no mention of any ghosts or hauntings at these parks, they're just the creepiest or most mysterious parks in Texas.

If you haven't visited Caddo Lake State Park - be it October or any time of year - you're missing out. Not just because it's home to one of the largest forests in the United States, but also because it's an East Texas treasure deemed one of most beautiful in the lone star state.

Getting creeped out is just a bonus if that's your kind of thing. Here's my favorite excerpt from TPW Magazine:

The lake’s stunning biodiversity (216 species of birds, 47 species of mammals and 90 species of reptiles and amphibians) means that when you get the creepy feeling that you’re being watched, it’s probably because you are.

The other parks in their article includes:

  • Devil's Sinkhole State Natural Area
  • Goliad State Park
  • McKinney Falls State Park
  • Galveston Island State Park
  • Enchanted Rock State Park

The weather is amazing right now for hikes. Get out there!
