Christoph Waltz beat out castmate Leonardo DiCaprio to win the first award at the 2013 Golden Globes for his turn as Dr. King Schultz in Quentin Tarantino's 'Django Unchained.'

Kate Hudson and Bradley Cooper were on stage to announce the winner of the Best Supporting Actor at the 2013 Golden Globes and Christoph Waltz, who won an Oscar for 'Inglourious Basterds,' was the night's first winner.

Waltz beat out his 'Django Unchained' co-star Leonardo DiCaprio plus Alan Arkin, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Tommy Lee Jones who many thought would be the frontrunner.

In his acceptance speech, Waltz thanked director Tarantino and The Weinstein Co. head Harvey Weinstein for their support and even paraphrased a quote from his 'Django' character saying, "The North star is that guy."

Waltz is also nominated for an Oscar for his 'Django Unchained' performance.
