A court has denied Ciara her bid for sole custody of her son, despite claims from the “Body Party” singer that her son’s father, rapper Future, is a neglectful parent.

Both Ciara and Future were reportedly present in court yesterday (May 16). Ciara’s request for sole custody was rejected by the judge who, according to TMZ, dismissed her assertions that Future is "a bad parent who [is] not present in the child's life." Both parents were awarded joint custody, a ruling generally favored by California law.

While their custody dispute is over for the foreseeable future, Ciara and Future are still involved in another legal battle from earlier this year, when Ciara filed a $15 million defamation suit against her former fiance.

In her suit, Ciara cites a radio interview where Future criticized Ciara’s parenting skills and her decision to introduce their child to her then-boyfriend (now fiance), Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson.

“She probably set him [Russell] up,” Future said. “You letting them catch that photo. Leave my son out of all the publicity stunts.”

The suit goes on to reference several other interviews where Future speaks unfavorably about Ciara, as well as some of the rapper's tweets about the singer (“This bitch got control problems…I gotta go through lawyers to see baby future…the f—kery for 15k a month”).

Ciara and Future ended their ten-month engagement back in August 2014 after rumors of Future's alleged infidelity began circulating online. The two have since been embroiled in a messy (and public) back-and-forth on Twitter, airing out their dirty laundry for everyone to see. To Ciara's credit, she asserts that she tried to speak with Future and settle things privately, but he refused all contact.
