It's been just shy of two decades since Coachella touched down in Indio, California, beginning as a stand-in for the recently axed Woodstock and since snowballing into a mecca for feathers, flower crowns, and cultural appropriation.

Its initial lineups were largely anchored by of-the-moment rock acts, but over the years, it's slowly ceded to the pop and hip-hop that demarcate the modern music landscape: This year's roster is toplined by Beyoncé, Eminem, and the Weeknd.
