What Are the Most Commonly Misspelled Words in Texas?
We don't want to admit it, but sometimes we don't always spell everything correctly here in Texas. There are some words that seem to stump us. So, what's the most common misspelled word in Texas? Turns out there's not just one. There're quite a few of them.
"Confident" is one word Texas has a problem with spelling.
According to AT&T, their experts have identified the most misspelled word in all 50 states. The one that seems to vex Texas is "confident". My guess is people will accidentally put "cofnident" or maybe "cofident", but usually people will type "CONFIDANT" instead.
Another commonly misspelled word in Texas is "similar".
In 2022, there was a different word that Texas couldn't spell. The Beaumont Enterprise noted that a lot of people in Texas couldn't spell "similar". Some people would accidently put "simalar".
Google pointed out a different common misspelled word in Texas.
Way back in 2017, the word that Texas COULD NOT SPELL, as pointed out by Google, was maintenance. To be fair, it is a fairly large word so there are plenty of chances to misspell maintanence. Sorry...MAINTENANCE.
There are many more words Texans just can't spell.
Plenty of Texas towns have fallen prey to bad spelling. For example, Fort Worth, Texas had to change their sign for "Northside Dr." because... well it didn't say that. And don't forget that the State Fair of Texas put up a sign that read "we're glad you're here!". Or...wait...
El Paso is not safe from bad spelling. We love our "autentic" Mexican food just like the Mexican restaurant Los Jarrones does.
And who can forget our famous "Seargent Major Blvd" Exit 26 sign?
Not even Buc-ee's is safe from the occasional letter swap.
So the moral of the story is to make sure to spell check. Because you'll look mightey silly if you don't.
