In addition to starring in ensemble comedies like Top Five and Think Like a Man, Kevin Hart has made a career out of playing one-half of an unlikely pairing. See also: Get Hard with Will Ferrell, The Wedding Ringer with Josh Gad, the Ride Along movies with Ice Cube and the upcoming action-comedy Central Intelligence with Dwayne Johnson. Hart will continue his streak of Odd Couple comedies with Bryan Cranston in the long-developing remake of the hit French film The Intouchables.

Per Deadline, Hart and Cranston are circling the leading roles in The Intouchables, The Weinstein Company’s U.S. remake of the French film from 2011. Directed by Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano, the original film centered on an aristocrat who becomes a quadriplegic and hires a young black man from the projects as his caregiver.

Cranston will play the role of the aristocrat, with Hart as his aide. Although the basic unlikely coupling scenario is right in his wheelhouse, The Intouchables may signal a change of pace for Hart, as the original film was a heartwarming comedy that grossed $416 million internationally — $10 million of which came from the U.S., and that’s a pretty big amount for a foreign-language film in limited release.

Paul Feig scripted the remake, intending to direct it himself after Bridesmaids, and while his screenplay remains, The Intouchables is still in need of a director now that Feig has long since moved on to other projects.

The original French film starred Francois Cluzet and Omar Sy, earning a Cesar Award (the French equivalent of the Oscars) for the latter and turning him into a breakout star. Since then, he’s appeared in films like X-Men: Days of Future Past and Jurassic World. Hart may already be a well-established star, but something like The Intouchables could allow him to show off a bit more of his range — and maybe open the door to starring in movies where he isn’t humorously odd-coupled with other leading men.
