Police in Dallas, Texas say a 14-year-old kid riding a stolen horse was fatally injured Tuesday, and two other teens were hospitalized, after the animals and traffic collided.

The Details Of The Incident

According to police, officers responded around 5:30 AM to an accident that occurred at Great Trinity Forest and Julius Schepps Freeway. What they saw when they arrived was like something out of a surreal nightmare.

Dallas PD and CBS affiliate KTVT-TV report that a vehicle driving along the freeway collided with three horses - all of which investigators say were stolen.

What Happened to the Riders?

A 14-year-old rider of one of the horses died at the scene, while a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old also riding horseback were hospitalized in stable condition.

Are the Horses OK?

Sadly, one of the horses was killed in the impact, while another was so badly injured that they had to be euthanized at the scene. The third animal was injured as well, but is expected to live.

The scene was so grisly that KTVT-TV blurred their footage of the scene of the crash. You can't help but feel awful for those poor horses, who had no say in where they were and what happened.

What About the Driver?

Rumors spread shortly after the crash that the driver of the vehicle had sped away from the scene, but police later said that isn't the case. Police did not say if the driver was injured, but said they didn't expect the driver to face any charges.

What Happens Now?

As of Tuesday evening, police had not commented on where the horses were stolen from, or if the teens involved would face charges. We'll update this story as new information becomes available.
