Daylight Saving Time 2026: What Texans Needs to Know

(East Texas) Daylight Saving Time ends in Texas on Sunday, November 1, 2026, when clocks will move back one hour at 2 a.m. East Texans will gain an extra hour of sleep and return to standard time, bringing earlier sunrises and sunsets. Driving into the radio station in the morning and home at night, I can tell our days are getting shorter by where the sun is in the sky. The sun is rising a little later in the morning and setting earlier in the evening. With shorter daylight hours, cooler and even colder weather will eventually make its way to East Texas.

Daylight Saving Time will come to an end, and we'll be returning to standard time. Decades ago, it was a chore to change all the clocks in our homes. One of the trickiest clocks to change was the VCR! Thankfully, those days are gone, but we still have to change the clocks on the microwave, coffee maker, alarm clock, and vehicles.

• Home alarm system - contact your monitoring service and let them know you'd like to test your system

When the time change weekend arrives, enjoy that extra hour of sleep as the clocks 'fall back' on that Sunday morning at 2.

Will Congress End the Twice-Yearly Time Change?

The push to end Daylight Saving Time continues within the U.S. Congress. In July 2026, the House passed the Sunshine Protection Act, by a vote of 308-117, to make Daylight Saving Time permanent while allowing states to opt out. However, the U.S. Senate has not approved the bill that would abolish the twice-yearly time change. Holdout legislatures are concerned about darker winter mornings for much of the country.

What Happens When You Fall Back?

Since is has not been signed into law, we will be changing our clocks again on November 1 and getting an extra hour of sleep. Which I will not argue against at all.
