Deandre Brackensick ‘Masters’ Stevie Wonder On ‘American Idol’
When watching ‘American Idol‘ contestant Deandre Brackensick perform, it’s hard to believe he was a wildcard who easily could have not been a part of this competition. Before his performance Ryan Seacrest sat down with the singer and showed him some emotional footage from last week of Brackensick crying. We don’t think anybody should ever have to see what they look like when they cry but Brackensick was a good sport laughing it off and saying “Oh Lord have mercy.”
Not only did the singer bring his great head of hair to the stage tonight, but he also brought a whole lot of swagger singing ‘Master Blaster’ by Stevie Wonder. From the first note to the last, Brackensick owned the stage with a funky reggae beat that had Jennifer Lopez bobbing up and down and dancing in her seat.
The judges had nothing but rave reviews for the curly-haired contestant. Steven Tyler commented that Brackensick “takes over the stage” and told him “You’ve got a different flavor than everyone else. I’ve always loved it, and I liked it again tonight. Thank you.”
Jennifer Lopez, who noticeably enjoyed his performance, said “You have rhythm, you have soul, you have swag, and I love what you did with the song.” She went on to say there was something weird at the end of the song, but then decided that the weirdness she was feeling was that she didn’t want his performance to end. Randy Jackson echoed Lopez’s sentiments “We didn’t want it to stop that’s how good and real that it was. That’s what this is about.”
