With a population of over 105,000 people, and a neighborhood breakdown of 29 constituent neighborhoods, Tyler comes in as the 34th largest community in Texas. But with that size, comes a higher risk for crime.

NeighborhoodScout analyzed Tyler's crime rates, giving the city an index score of 11. This means that Tyler ranks safer than 11% of U.S. cities. That same report was then used to look at neighborhoods individually,  breaking down 6 neighborhoods that all ranked the highest on the scale of 'safest to most dangerous'.

We did speak with the City of Tyler who took a look at NeighborhoodScout's data. The city says that the area covered by NeighborhoodScout research doesn't match the Tyler Police Department. NeighborhoodScout's provided data does not reflect the City of Tyler limits and is influenced by retail and commercial theft (shoplifting, etc.) that does not impact or reflect the residential neighborhoods.

The Tyler Police Department does take efforts to reduce crime in the city's neighborhoods.
