We've seen drive thru testing in other parts of Texas and the country and now it's coming to East Texas.

Plans were announced last week that a mobile COVID-19 testing site would be setting up at the Longview Fairgrounds with testing being conducted drive thru style on Tuesday and Wednesday. Those seeking a test would have to register before arriving. Well, now the same kind of testing site set up is making its way to Tyler and Smith County too.

The Texas Department of Emergency Management and the Texas Department Of State Health Services have announce plans for free drive-thru COVID-19 testing to take place in Tyler. Those seeking a test must make an appointment by calling 512.883.2400 or online.

Testing is limited and will be available to citizens actively displaying symptoms. Those symptoms include:

  • fever
  • chills
  • fatigue
  • shortness of breath
  • sore throat
  • body aches
  • headache
  • vomiting
  • nasea
  • nasal congestion
  • loss of taste or smell

Testing will be made available to first responder and medical personnel with or without showing symptoms, but must call and make a reservation for a testing time.

Smith County testing will be conducted May 12th, 13th and 14th (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) from 9a - 5p at Harvey Hall Convention Center at 2000 W. Front Street in Tyler.
