I'm not the only driver in Tyler or East Texas who has noticed that drivers have a 'me mentality' when it comes to driving. Many appear to prioritize their own destination while disregarding basic traffic laws. Examples include rolling through stop signs or turning right on red without coming to a complete stop. These drivers could be putting a pedestrian's or a biker's life in jeopardy.

Traffic and Construction Are Adding to the Problem

The issue of self-centered driving is only increasing. The number of vehicles on the road, coupled with construction and traffic lights, adds to the problem as people are in a hurry to get somewhere.

We know that traffic is getting worse in parts of Tyler and East Texas. Some traffic lights seem to be poorly timed in portions of the region. All of these issues are extremely frustrating, and some are quite dangerous. Some Tyler drivers are tired of seeing blatant disregard for traffic signals and basic traffic laws and are challenging others when it comes to red lights and speed limits.

Is There a Fix for Tyler’s Traffic Issues?

There is no easy fix to Tyler's traffic issues. The only thing we can do is return to basic driver's education. Stop when the light is red and behind the white stop bar painted on the ground, use turn signals when you want to change lanes, and park within the lines in a parking lot. Above all, just be courteous.
