The countdown is on to the opening of the 100th East Texas State Fair!

Soon the smell of cotton candy, turkey legs, corn dogs, bbq, pizza, funnel cakes and more will be filling the East Texas air.

Along with the food, plenty of livestock will be looked over and judged, where a lucky few will be named 'Best In Show.' Then the big attraction at the East Texas Fair is the midway and carnival rides. Here's where the kids and adult kids will have the time of their lives and filling the fairgrounds with screams and cheers!

This year's celebration features high profile names on the entertainment stage, including JB and the Moonshine Band and Dan + Shay, along with other musical acts.

Among the daily scheduled events are the K-9's in Flight show, a gigantic sand sculpture, the Lady Houdini magic show, the stunning City Cirque Show, an alligator show and a nightly laser and pyrotechnics show and other acts.

There will be plenty of shopping in the marketplace and animals to look at throughout agriculture world. And then there's the midway! It's loaded with all the action, featuring some the industry's scariest thrill rides and amusements available.

To help the fair celebrate its 100th year, area schools will be participating in a time capsule project. There also will be daily specials among the food vendors, and special contests, too.

The East Texas State Fair also helps out students by awarding various scholarships to area students.

The East Texas State Fair opens Friday, Sept. 25 and runs through Sunday, Oct. 4. General admission is $8 for adults and $6 for kids ages 6 to 12. Save money on arm bands for the rides by purchasing them online.

Have a blast celebrating the 100th East Texas State Fair this year and we'll see you at the fair!
