East Texas Food Bank Wins $45,000 Grant from Walmart
In April I posted the story about the East Texas Food Bank and their quest to win Walmart's "Fighting Hunger Together" campaign. Yesterday we received word from officials at the food bank that they were one of 100 organizations selected to receive part of $3 million in grants to fight hunger. The East Texas Food Bank's part of the grant totals $45,000!
Dennis Cullinane, executive director of the East Texas Food Bank says:
Thank you to everyone who took the time to vote for the East Texas Food Bank. We truly appreciate East Texans support and the ongoing generosity of Walmart. These grant funds will be used to expand the East Texas Food Bank’s BackPack Program. Athens ISD, Frankston ISD, Nacogdoches ISD, Palestine ISD, Tyler ISD andWestwood ISD are just a few of the school districts who partner with the East Texas Food Bank toprovide food for children through the BackPack Program.
The BackPack program will be able to provide 10,000 backpacks to feed hungry children right here in East Texas. Thank you to everyone who helped the food bank accomplish this!
