East Texas Got a Visit from a Huge Rock Star Wednesday Night
Growing up, one of my favorite, and still favorite, bands was Nirvana. After loosing Kurt Cobain in 1994, Nirvana was done. However, their drummer, Dave Grohl, started a little band called Foo Fighters a couple of years later.
Who knew a drummer could sing? They quickly became one of the most popular bands in all of rock music. And Grohl has shown time and again to be one of the coolest rock stars ever. Posing for random pictures in the street, bringing fans on stage during shows, he even cooked BBQ for firefighters last year while they were battling the California wildfires.
All of that leads into Wednesday night, May 1, at Stanley's Famous Pit Bar-B-Q in Tyler. A few lucky patrons got the opportunity to meet Dave Grohl as he was there working on a non-music project.
We reached out to some of those lucky few who got the opportunity for a photo op with Grohl. They were kind enough to share their experience with us.
Bailey McWhorter said, "Dave was super nice, extremely humble, and it was such an honor to meet him in person. I've been a huge fan of him for years and I love what he's doing with music, and especially barbecue."
Daniel Poe said, "It's always a joy to meet someone you admire, and even better when they are warm and friendly. Dave is everything you hope he would be in person, and more. It's surreal to share moments with someone who has had a hand in so many amazing projects and shaped the face of rock and roll."
Robert De Sanchez said, "I work at Stanley’s and had the pleasure to make some of the food for Dave’s group. Hundreds of people walk into Stanley’s to eat and it was a surprise to everyone when he busted through the doors. Definitely a phenomenal experience and one to remember."
Whitney Landwermeyer said, "It was a once in a lifetime moment to have the opportunity to meet him. I've always been a huge fan of his music. it was an awesome experience I'll never forget."
Amanda Braun said, "I mean it was honestly surreal. He was down to earth and loved BBQ and Lone Star. he actually grabbed my phone and started taking a bunch of selfies and I couldn't think of a better way to meet one of my idols."
Jac Calderon said, "This is a picture of me and my brothers, we’re the Family Jewelz from Del Rio, Texas and have been playing music our entire lives. Dave has and always will be one of our biggest inspirations. It was incredible to be able to meet and chat with him."
