The temperatures across the eastern third of Texas this past weekend were well above normal. Numerous locations reported temperatures into the mid-90s.

In fact, Lufkin tied a maximum temperature for October 13 when the high reached 94 degrees.

But, This is East Texas

A strong cold front is bearing down on the Pineywoods and is expected to bring gusty north winds and much cooler temperatures to the region by Tuesday night. Some weather models are showing that temperatures may be near records again...this time on the cold side.

The official Lufkin/Nacogdoches forecast from the National Weather Service predicts temperatures on Tuesday night to drop to the mid-50s. North winds gusting to 20 mph will make it seem colder when you're heading to work or school on Wednesday morning.

The strong northerly breezes will continue throughout a sunny day on Wednesday as the high temperature reaches 70 degrees. The low Wednesday night is expected to get down to 47. This is about 5-10 degrees colder than was predicted several days ago.

But, It May Get Colder

Several weather models are showing some pockets around Deep East Texas dipping into the 30s by late Wednesday night. Even if this comes true, it's doubtful that Lufkin would hit the record low for that date (35 degrees).

But, We Need Some Rain

Many times, a fall cold front will bring rain chances with it. That's not the case this time. Forecasters don't show any rain chances for East Texas through the upcoming weekend.

It has been more than a month since significant rainfall fell across the Angelina and Nacogdoches Counties. Burn bans continue to increase across the region.

East Texas will have beautiful autumn weather Wednesday through the upcoming weekend, but some precipitation would be welcome at some point.
