Winter has made a return to East Texas and it's freezing!

Thanks to a cold front that moved through yesterday, today's high barely made it above freezing today for most of East Texas. Once the sun goes down the temperatures are going to plummet along with it.

The National Weather Service out of Shreveport has issued a FREEZE WARNING in effect from 6 p.m. Monday, March 4th through 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 5th for the following East Texas counties:

  • Franklin
  • Titus
  • Camp
  • Morris
  • Cass
  • Wood
  • Upshur
  • Marion
  • Smith
  • Gregg
  • Harrison
  • Cherokee
  • Rusk
  • Panola

The freeze warning was issued because overnight temperatures will fall into the upper teens across the northern part of East Texas and in the mid-20's in the southern parts of East Texas.

You should take steps to insure the following are protected:

  • outdoor pipes
  • outdoor animals
  • outdoor plants
  • elderly neighbors or those that require assistance

According to the National Weather Service:

Afternoon temperatures barely rose above the freezing mark across northern portions of the area and will quickly fall below freezing with the setting sun. Areas further south should mostly fall to around the freezing mark by midnight. These temperatures will slowly climb to above the freezing mark by mid to late morning Tuesday.

Damage may occur to vegetation and early budding and blooming plants and trees.
