From Ghosts To Heights: Exploring Texans’ Biggest Fears And Beyond
Hey, Lubbock! Halloween is right around the corner, and while we’re all about spooky costumes, what’s REALLY haunting Texans?
A new survey broke down the top fears across the country, and in Texas, the biggest fear is one we don’t take lightly—death. Turns out, we’re not alone. Seventeen other states, from California to New York, put death at the top of their creepy charts too.
I think our top fear makes the most sense too. Personally, I would think 'death' would be everyone's number one fear, right? I mean, if you're afraid of snakes, you're scared of them because they might bite you and you could die. So, basically, you're also afraid of 'death'. But, I digress...
Death isn't the only thing giving Texans the chills. Heights also made a strong showing nationwide, claiming the top spot in eight states like Pennsylvania and Georgia. And let’s not forget those danger noodles known as snakes—they’re the stuff of nightmares in six states, especially in the South.
Thankfully, we’ve got wide-open spaces here, but that doesn’t stop us from watching our step when hiking or hunting...or walking in my yard at Buffalo Springs Lake!
Other top fears like public speaking and enclosed spaces didn’t make a big showing for Texas, but they’re not far behind on the list. And here’s a fun twist: in Montana, it’s ghosts and spirits that scare the crap out of everybody.
Now here’s a question for you—would you face your biggest fear for $1,000? About 24% of people say they would. But here in Texas, where we like to keep it tough, you have to wonder—are we brave enough to face those fears, or are we just a little too smart to tempt fate?
I mean, I don't suppose ANY amount of money would make me want to face actual DEATH!
