80 years ago America got its first buffet experience, and for a long time, buffet restaurants were king. I remember visiting Golden Corral Now, thanks to COVID-19, many folks cringe at the thought of ever visiting a buffet styled restaurant again. Golden Corral may be open for takeout, however many popular buffet chains like Hometown Buffet and Old Country Buffet remain closed.

According to Restaurantbuisness.com Golden Corral announced they have closed all 35 company-operated restaurants due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The buffet chain also announced that they furloughed 2,290 employees. Like many other Americans these days, the Buffet's employees were informed of the changes through a “virtual” meeting with corporate officers and HR present.

Golden Corral CEO Lance Trenary spoke during the virtual town-hall meeting and told his employees "It's truly an emotional and challenging time for our country. The realities of the current situation have forced us to make difficult decisions.". The Golden chain promised to provide food for the furloughed employees so they can feed their families without worry and the company also plans to help them find a new job.

Although over 454 franchised stores remain in operation, there is no word if they will remain open or follow corporates lead. The Golden Corral locations in East Texas and Shreveport remain open.
