The separation of Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie came as a shock to just about everyone, but it turns out, the couple were well prepared for it.

Page Six reports that the pair have a rock solid prenup from when they first got hitched.

When they first married, the New York Post reported, “It was a totally amicable agreement. They love each other very much and knew this was just a technicality.” Unfortunately it was also, apparently necessary.

Duff is worth about $25 million from her time as a Disney darling, singer, actress, designer and brand magnate, and she's probably earning a few bucks here and there from staging paparazzi photos of herself walking around. Comrie is worth about $5 million from his days as a professional hockey player -- and he also stands to inherit his family's $500 million fortune from their founding of Canadian chain store The Brick.

Radar Online reports that Duff even earned $1 million for her wedding photos.

Despite the cash concerns, Duff's mother, Susan, insists that the 'So Yesterday' singer and Comrie really are still close. “It’s absolutely true that they’ll remain friends.” And it looks like that's true: they were together yesterday when they announced their separation!
