It's heating up in East Texas and soon you'll be looking for an escape from the heat and the humidity and one of the best places to get that relief is by heading to a waterpark. Lucky for you there are several waterparks within a couple of hours' drive that you can venture out to experience all of the thrills and screams that a splash pad can't give you.

Now that waterpark season is upon us it's time for us to find our go-to, escape place. There are a couple of indoor year-round waterparks available to us anytime - The Waterpark At The Villages on Lake Palestine and there are a couple of them just a couple of hours away in the Dallas area in Grand Prairie and Grapevine. Besides those, there are quite a few other outdoor waterparks around us that are getting ready to open soon. You'll be able to slide down their slides, relax in their lazy rivers, and ride the gentle waves in their wave pool along with other special water attractions.

So when you get hot and your family wants an escape, there are plenty of available options. Just pack that beach bag with the essentials - sunscreen, towels, flip flops, snacks, water, and sunscreen. Did I mention sunscreen? You're going to need it because you can burn easily underneath the Texas sun.

Here's a look at some water parks around East Texas that are within a few hours' drive that you can hit up and have some fun in the sun or have some fun in their indoor setting.
