Finding something rare in the state of Texas is a major moment. When it does happen, the person or persons responsible for the find become famous for what they found. For one Texas family visiting Arkansas, they're moment in the spotlight has arrived for an incredible gem find.
The Ward Family's Journey To Crater Of Diamonds State Park In Arkansas
For the Wards, finding their way to Arkansas started while the family was watching TV. Per KATV, here's what Elizabeth Ward told the news organization:
“One day we were watching TV, and Austin came and said, ‘Mommy, Mommy, is there any place in Texas or nearby that we can mine for crystals?’”

Austin, the son of James and Elizabeth Ward, was ready to search for something valuable. Elizabeth then turned to none other than Siri to see if there was any place to look for crystals. They found Crater of Diamonds State Park, and it was only six hours away from their location in Texas.

So the hunt was on for gems! But how did the Wards do?
Did The Wards Strike It Rich Or Go Home Empty-Handed?
When the Wards arrived to the Park on December 29th, 2025, it wasn't easy on the first day. Weather stopped them on their quest, but they were undeterred. On the next day, James made a startling discovery.
James unearthed a 2.09-carat brown diamond, which must have been exciting to see. Of course, as the finder of the gem, James got to name it. What did he name it you ask? None other than the Ward diamond.
What will happen with the Ward diamond? Only time will tell.
