John Cena has opened up about his split from Nikki Bella just a little more than a week after the couple announced they were ending their engagement and going their separate ways.

Cena told E! News at the premiere of Bumblebee at Cinemacon Thursday (April 26) that he's got no ill will toward his ex, and that he can only heal his heart by continuing down his current path.

Cena and Bella had planned to get married on May 5.

“Nicole knows I love her and I miss her, but that is what it is. And I’m still here, still going—and I choose to go,” he said. “When you love somebody, it stings...That’s why musicians write about it. That’s why poets write about it...Life sometimes is tough, but it is life and it goes on."

A source previously told Entertainment Tonight earlier this month that the topic of starting a family is what eventually caused irreparable relationship damage.

"Nikki and John truly love each other, but they will never have the same view on a perfect future," the source said. "Nikki has always dreamt of having a family of her own and John does not want children and that was the main cause of their break up. They are both dedicated to their careers, but Nikki wants more than just that."

Nikki's twin sister Brie told People that in light of the split, Cena will always be a part of the family.

“I will always love John as a brother, and I will always look at him like that,” she said. “If one day our relationship fades, then so it does, but as of right now I want to be there for him as much as I’m there for my sister. And Nicole respects that. He will always be family.”
