Dino-Mite! Production Wraps on ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’
While we still don’t know much about Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom - the newly rechristened sequel to Colin Trevorrow’s runaway success Jurassic World - there are a few things we can say for sure. For one, Jeff Goldblum is back in the franchise and will be reprising his Ian Malcolm character from the original movies. For two, the movie will have an ‘epic’ submarine sequence that is intended to rival anything in The Fate of the Furious. For three, the film will also bring back ‘Rexy,’ the giant T-Rex that proved that she, not the Indominus Rex, was the true alpha of the Jurassic World kingdom.
A movie this big also requires a lot of post-production work, which is why Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is wrapping nearly a full year before its projected release date on June 22, 2018. For now, an army of VFX artists is going to start the painstaking process of blending together digital and practical effects, which means we can start guessing at when some of the first footage will find its way online. If I were a betting man, I’d say keep an eye out on November releases for the first teaser trailer; Jurassic World was released in June of 2015 and the very first teaser was released online the final week of November 2014. Unless they decide to change the promotional timeline considerably - and why would they, it clearly worked the first time around - we’ll start seeing some Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom footage just in time for award season.
As a reminder, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will bring back Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard and add franchise newcomers James Cromwell, Ted Levine, and Toby Jones. Keep that June 22, 2018, date circled on your calendar, because it seems like a safe bet.
