Kate Hudson Defends Weight Watchers Partnership: ‘It’s About Wellness’
A-list actress Kate Hudson may not be the first celebrity you think of when you picture a potential new spokespeople for Weight Watchers, now known as simply WW after a recent rebranding, but keep reading.
Hudson may be more well known for hit movies like How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Almost Famous, and Bride Wars, than struggling with her weight. And while news of Hudson's new gig caused a bit of controversy at first, this is the same reason she makes sense as the latest face of WW.
A big part of why WW teamed with the actress is to help change people's preconceived ideas of what the program is all about. "WW is not a diet, it's really a lifestyle," Hudson attests.
"One of the things about this re-imagining of WW is it's not just about weight, it's about wellness," Hudson told TODAY on Thursday (Jan. 10). "To me, it's all about support... Everyone's looking to how do you get motivated, how do you stay motivated?"
Hudson may not be famous for her weight struggles, but she's still got goals like a lot of us! Before even being announced as WW"s newest ambassador, Hudson posted on Instagram some goals for the new year.
"I will be shooting a film in the spring and I’m looking to shed 25 lbs. I’d like to try new workouts and eat as healthy as I can. I wanna do all this and keep up milk production, raise my kids, work everyday, make time for my man, have girlfriend time and stay sane!" Hudson wrote in the post's caption.
Weight Watchers was originally founded in 1963 by Queens, New York, mother and housewife Jean Nidetch. You can imagine how much health and weight loss knowledge and trends have changed over the past 56 years, so it only makes sense that the WW program and brand would evolve right along with them.
