UPDATE: A representative for James Bay has since reached out to WENN to clear up his comments about Lily Allen and the BRIT Awards with a statement from the singer, indicating his quotes were taken out of context. Read it in full below.

Having been out of the country in Australia and America for the past 3 weeks I was unaware of Lily’s comments about the Brits. I fully support and believe the Brits should represent a diverse spectrum of artists and music.
I don’t feel negative towards Lily or her music at all. I’d simply been unaware of her most recent release and subsequently someone has been over creative with this whole story.

Let's put this simply: Lily Allen is not aboard the James Bay Train, and he's happy to have left her stranded at the station.

Earlier this month, Allen accused the BRIT Awards — which will air on Wednesday (February 24) — of catering almost exclusively to white artists managed by big labels while ignoring smaller, nonwhite acts with less famous management, according to The Metro.

"I don't think music industry figures (or people that work at major labels) even look at artists as artists when it comes to voting for these things, the artists represent their teams," she wrote.

Bay, a recent darling of the awards show, didn't take too kindly to the remarks, and responded by saying "I can't think of her last album, [or] when she last released something," according to The Mirror.

"It’s about music, I don’t know why she’s had to go down that route," he added.

Very early this morning (February 22), Allen tweeted that she'd just stumbled upon Bay's comments, and argued that he, on the contrary, was the forgettable one.

"I must admit if not heard of him until I saw my feed this morning, I have now listened to some of his music and seen his hat," she wrote, before adding "He shares a name with the most standard, basic and least flavorsome herb, which I found both fitting and amusing."

Allen also retweeted followers who claimed Bay was irresponsible by staying silent on the question of race as it pertains to the ceremony.
